Handy packing tips for moving

protective packaging

A very important step when moving is packing your belongings. So it is best to tackle this as efficiently as possible. This saves you a lot of time, effort, and broken stuff.

This blog explains how you can pack your moving boxes like a real pro. But first, you need protective packaging material to handle your packing tasks properly.

Glassware, crockery, and fragile objects

When packing fragile items such as glassware and crockery, it is extremely important that you wrap each loose item in wrapping paper or newspaper. That's why it's a good idea to start saving old newspapers some time in advance.

Always put the heavier items at the bottom of the box and the lighter items on top. This prevents the lighter items from being crushed and broken. Also, make sure that you put the items in the box in full rows so that they cannot slide. A tip is to put your towels and tea towels at the bottom of the moving boxes. These then offer extra protection for fragile items and do not have to be packed separately.

Be careful not to overfill the boxes. The boxes are piled up in the moving van, and the top items can be crushed when they are too full.

Also, take care of your large valuable items like a mattress. Store it in the mattress moving cover.

Books

When packing books, it is useful to use book boxes. These are a lot more compact and sturdy than regular moving boxes. If you do not have access to book boxes, it is also possible to use normal moving boxes. In this case, fill your moving box up to half with books and fill it with light objects for the rest. This ensures that the boxes do not sag, and it is also not wise to lift boxes weighing more than 20 kilos.

Plants

You can simply pack smaller plants in moving boxes, but you should pay attention to a number of things. For example, stop watering a few days in advance. This way, you ensure that the plants do not leak into the moving boxes. It is also useful to stick in the potting soil and attach the plant to it. This will prevent the plant from cracking in the box. Very large plants can be sealed in shrink wrap. Finally, do not move indoor plants in freezing temperatures. Most plants do not survive this.

Moving company

If you don't want to worry about these various things, you can also have a moving company pack your belongings.
